What is the Scandlearn Design System?
We produce a lot of course material from day to day. A real lot. So it's vital that each member of our Design Team in every department is on the same page when it comes to the design style for the work that we publish. This is where the Design System comes in. This internal portal and knowledge base helps to ensure that our creative work is consistent and within the proper brand parameters across all Scandlearn courseware.
Team resource
The articles and guides in this portal have been made for the Design Team but can also be useful for other personnel at Scandlearn who interact with courseware creation, branding or marketing tasks at different levels.
Essential guidelines
Whoever it may be on our team that uses this system, they can be rest assured that whatever they read here will be the right way to design Scandlearn course material and other communications.
Every article in this knowledge base has been written and approved by senior members of the team. Which is why it's important that the guidelines provided here are followed as closely as possible.

Keep it secret. Keep it safe.
The information contained within the articles in this portal are designed for Scandlearn team members only. Please do not share any pages or the contents within any pages to any public platforms. Restrict any sharing to internal Scandlearn channels like our Slack or Click-up servers.

Our workflow
Script
A course's production starts when the Training Team begin writing the script. An outline is made and, after some back and forth, a finished draft is approved that is ready to hand over to the Design Team.
Design preparation
Upon receiving the script, the Design Team will assess the scope of the script, breaking it down into sections and setting internal milestones. From these milestones a timeline is forged that includes task durations and dependencies.
Pre-production
Work than begins on storyboarding the pages, including discussions to bounce ideas around or clarify any technical aspects and requirements from the script.
Artwork production
Once the storyboard is approved, work begins on creating the final illustrated assets, as well as any 3D models and scenes that are required. Regular quality checks are conducted throughout the process.
Animation
When the illustrated artworks are approved they are immediately passed on to the Animation Team who take these, as well as the voice over recordings, to create the actual course pages.
Revisions and publishing
The finished pages are assembled and put forward for review and checking. Any required updates are applied and upon final approval the course is published on our learning platform and made available to our customers.
How to use the Design System
If you're an experienced member of the Design Team feel free to explore all of the articles in the portal.
For those of you who are fresh to Scandlearn, the best place to start learning would be the basics, starting with the Core Elements. From there you can continue to read other articles that are relevant to your discipline (ie. illustration, animation, 3D artist).
Even after reading every guide, the Design System will likely be a helpful reference for both new and experienced team members.

Additions and updates
The senior designers will continue to add new articles to the Design System, so keep an eye out for new guides when they're announced on Slack!
